We rolled out of bed at 7:30 AM today, had our coffee and waited for the 8:30 AM lock opening which came off right on time. After passing through the lock, our first time ever, we cruised about 5 miles and stopped at the NC welcome center, which also services highway 17 that parallels the canal most of the way. After leaving the welcome center, we continued north into VA and arrived at the Clear Creek lock in time for the last opening of the day. We then motored about 8 miles to tonight's anchorage which is just off I64 going into Portsmouth, VA. As I was sitting on deck a little while ago, I watched the Interstate traffic soaring by at 70 - 80 MPH and realized that we have come all the way from Ft. Lauderdale to here at 5 knots. Talk about slowing down and smelling the roses!!! Tomorrow, we will pass mile 0 on the ICW and head out into the Chesapeake Bay to do a few days of sailing in what is supposed to be one of the best sailing experiences in the country. I hope you enjoy today's pictures:

Hey, maybe you should re-think your plans. You're only 900+ miles from the northern end of the ICW. You can do it -- go for it. Just kidding. Glad you made it to your planned turnaround spot. Sounds wonderful.
Enjoy playing in the Bay.

Jerry - Actually, mile marker 0 for the ICW is at Hospital Point in Norfork, VA. We could go another 900 miles to MA, but I don't think that's really ICW. Although, it would be a great trip.
