Avalanche Creek Road Closure

The road above Avalanche Creek is still closed to car traffic because of road construction and snow. So, this past Sunday I felt energetic and decided to take a bike ride above the closure. Probably won't be able to bike this road after it opens to car traffic. Following are just some pictures I took along the way.

I received the link, in an email from a friend today. It's a great tribute to a past generation! A generation, if, who were still in their youth would certainly not allow the things to happen to this country that is happening today.



They fought and many died to preserve our American freedoms. They went to war to WIN, not pussyfoot around and be "politically correct".



They would surely embrace the people wanting to come to this country, LEGALLY, and become American citizens.



They would, most likely, even help these people learn to speak ENGLISH. They would not allow a second or third language to become "official".



They would not allow the illegals to live on our welfare nor suck the life out of our social security.



They would not allow the illegals and terrorist to roam our streets freely or the wreck havoc on our way of live. Our way of life that they fought to preserve.



They would not allow the American Flag to be flown upside down beneath another country's flag, here in the USA.



I could go on and on, but I won't.



I just want to know how in the hell we can take our country back and preserve it for future generations of legal, English speaking, hard working, proud of this country AMERICANS ????

To our friends who enjoy a glass of wine . . . and even those who don't.

As Ben Franklin said: "In wine there is wisdom, in beer there is freedom, in water there is bacteria".

In a number of carefully controlled trials, scientists have demonstrated that if we drink 1 liter of water each day, at the end of the year we would have absorbed more than 1 kilo of Escherichia coli, (E. coli) - bacteria found in feces. In other words, we are consuming 1 kilo of poop. (that's over 2 pounds).

However, we do NOT run that risk when drinking wine & beer (or tequila, rum, whiskey or other liquor) because alcohol has to go through a purification process of boiling, filtering and/or fermenting.

Therefore, remember: Water = Poop, Wine = Health.

So, it's better to drink wine and talk stupid, than to drink water and be full of shit.

Rainy Sunday

Well, to my surprise, I awakened this morning to RAIN!!!! More rain!!! Between the rain and the snow melt, Montana may end up in the Pacific Ocean before it's over. I had planned to do a bike ride in Glacier NP today. The road is still closed to cars at Avalanche Campground, but you can hike or bike above there for about 5 miles. It would be nice to see that part of the park, again, before it opens to tourist traffic. I'll keep my eye on the sky and maybe still get it in this afternoon.

In the meantime, I thought I'd go back into my pictures of the trip out here this spring and post a few of them from time to time. So, for today:



This is the Mormon Temple that sits on a huge square in Salt Lake City. It is "attended" by many, many young girls from all over the world. They called themselves something, but I forget what it was. They answer questions and will act as a tour guide, if you want a guided tour. I expect they would try to "convert" you, as well. It would have been interesting, had I more time, to have them explain the differences between the Mormons the Baptists. I know at one time, they practiced polygamy. I think there are only a few sects that still do so. One is located in Colorado City, AZ , not too far from the North Rim of the Grand Canyon. The men would certainly need God's help if they chose to have more than one wife!!!!



This is an actual pic I took of the pipe organ inside the Mormon Tabernacle. We were able to catch the last few minutes of the organists practice that day.



This statue is called the "Talking Jesus" It's in a circular room all by itself and watched over by several of the young ladies I mentioned earlier. After a brief history provided by one of the young ladies, the statue recites some scripture.

The entire area was very impressive but, in my opinion, is just another example of some religions excessive extravagance. I'm sure the money spent to build and maintain this area could be better spent on their "flock".

I will admit though, from what little experience I've had with the Mormons out west, they do "take care of their own".

Snow Clearing in Glacier Park

If you haven't gone to the Glacier Park web site since my original post, you really should take another look. They now have pictures of late May snow clearing. Unbelievable!!!

Random Pictures

Things have been a little slow here this week because the weather has been chilly and it's been raining or overcast most of the time. There's still snow in the mountains, so many roads are closed or really muddy.

I've been doing a little fishing (not catching) and a little biking (bicycle not motorcycle). It's hard to believe, but anywhere I go on the bicycle, it's uphill going and coming!!

I'm talking to a lot of people and still learning how to fish for the Cutthroat, Rainbow and Lake trout that's up here. They are a lot more "spooky" than what I'm used to back east. And I'm not into fly fishing, so I'm trying to master the spinning rod technique. I have caught one pretty nice Cutthroat.

Well, since things are a little slow I thought I'd post a few more pictures I've taken while here. I hope I don't post any duplicates but if I do, you'll have to forgive me.

"Red Bus" One of the original, restored buses used for paid tours. There are also "free"shuttles being used in the park again this year. I say "free" cause, it's our tax dollars.

Yep, it's a couple of deer!!! I promise bigger and better animals when the roads open up.
